THE NORTH DEVON AREA OF OUTSTANDING NATURAL BEAUTY

Stowford Country Lodges are located on the fringe of The North Devon area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) - a stunning coastal area which is nationally protected for the beauty of it's landscape. It is made up of several distinct landscape types, each with it's own special habitats and geology, including the most vulnerable and beautiful parts of the UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve centred around the village of Braunton and it's estuary.

The North Devon AONB covers 171 sq km of coastal landscape from Marsland Mouth on the Cornish border, to Combe Martin on the boundary of Exmoor National Park. The designation as an AONB in 1959, places it in a family of 41 AONB's and 11 National Parks which together make up the finest landscapes of the United Kingdom.

Unusually, the North Devon AONB also contains a fantastic diversity of scenery - whether it's the fabulous coastline, impossible cliffs, harbours unchanged for centuries and the miles of golden sands or the rugged, heather clad moorland of Exmoor National Park; this area simply cannot fail to impress as a holiday destination.
